The routes
S. Urbano's Abbey and arounde dintorni
specie arboree come pioppi e salici.

The Castreccioni lake and the Argiano's
ditch
The path begins at the end of gravel way that from
Crocefisso arrives at Castreccioni’s Lake near Biancuccia.
The storage with its surface of about 260 Ha characterizes
the environment supporting the growth of the damp zones
typical vegetation.
Going on toward South-West in direction of Fosso d’Argiano,
it is possible to notice the development, in the not very
deep waters near the bank, of vegetable plants with
submerged roots and aereal roots as tifa, Common
Straw and Reed.
This vegetation is very important for nest building and the
shelter of some birds which stay in the area as ashen heron,
water hen, wild duck and cormorant. Also the ichthyic fauna
is worthy to be mentioned, we remember Fario trout, pike,
the eel, carp, chub, the barbel and the exotic Black Bass
better known as Perch trout.
The path runs along the right side of the lake, completely
on Scaglia Cinerea (Higher Eocene) formation to arrive at
Fosso Biancuccia; crosses it and keeps on running along the
lake at different altitudes to the confluence’s point
between Fosso di Argiano and the lake itself. |

presence and several Orchideacee, the lawns are a glade at the foot
of the west side of S. Vicino mountain, near the ditch’s head of
Crino, at an altitude of 1157 metres above sea level. Covering the
path is possible observing a wide pasture and a copse with sessile
oak, kernel, flowering ash and black hornbeam presence.
Going beyond Cà Marchetto arrives, walking in the Formazione della
Scaglia Rossa, The Flake, at an little watershed with a source: from
this point the path begins to go uphill through a beautiful and big
beechwood. Going on uphill the path joins at Crino’s ditch valley
floor near Trocchi di san Vicino.Crossing nodular light brown
limestone formation it is possible to find out some fossils as
ammonites and aptici. It is also possible to veer left, just before
the capture spoils of Trocchi di San Vicino, to go up a glade where
there is the view of Castreccioni’s Lake below the orizon. From
there goes on uphill to San Vicino’s lawn, the ring’s arrival point.. |
